Stick pearls and Nugget pearls

Biwa pearls are often referred as stick pearls as these pearls look like sticks. Stick pearls have free shapes with roughed surface. Though they are irregular in shape, they have good color and luster.

Biwa pearls is most famous type of freshwater pearls, these pearls are obtained from mussels grown in Lake Biwa, Japan. White is most common color in Biwa pearls. While inserting seed bead of Small Square is inserted into mussel, this mussel requires three or more years to produce pearls of good quality.

Due its amazing shape many different jewelry items like necklace or earring or even you can make bracelets. Stick pearls can be Length drilled or center drilled. They are available in wide range of colors from black, white, grey with multicolor overtones.

Nugget or Baroque pearls

Baroque pearls or sometime referred as Nugget pearls; are pearls with irregular shape. Due to their unusual appearance they are unique. Baroque pearls have many sizes and colors. These pearls are irregular and non symmetrical. Baroque pearls resembles to stick, cross or any other shape. Pearls which does not have typical round or off round shape are called Semi baroque pearls. Baroque pearls are considered to be more natural looking pearls. Some nugget shapes pearls may have one or two side flat.

Baroque shaped pearls are produced when expanding pearl sac grows irregularly because of no appreciable resistance or sometimes pearl cysts are lodged in muscular tissue means mantle-tissue is nucleated instead of bead. Baroque shape differs as its origin changes. In Akoya pearls in baroque pearls it has small tail that comes to a sharp point behind a rounded front.

Due to its unusual shape different jewelry items can be made like earrings, necklace or bracelet. Baroque pearls are available in many different sizes from 3mm to 10mm.

Baroque pearls are least expensive. Cost of baroque pearls depends on their type, like South Sea and Tahitian pearls which are produced by black- lipped oyster are most expensive among all baroque pearls. Jewelry made up from baroque pearls is excellent choice if you are looking for original and unique look.
