Natural Pearls -Some Famous Pearls

Pearl is one of the oldest gems in the world. Natural pearl stands out to be rare findings and have been admired for thousands of years. Here are some pearls that are reminders of Pearl history.

Abernathy pearls: This pearl was discovered by William Abernathy in 1967 in River Tay. This pearl is also referred as “Little Willie”. This is a pink spherical pearl with outstanding quality. This pearl was of 44 grain which is rare to find in natural freshwater pearls.

The Gogibus pearl: This was largest discovered pearl in 17th century. It was found on off the coast of the West Indies. This pear shaped pearl weighed 126 carats. King Philip purchased this pearl from merchant named Gobius so the name, who wore this pearl as button in his cap.

Big Pink Pearl: Big pink pearl is listed in the Guinness book of World Records recorded as largest natural abalone pearl. This pearl was valued in 1997 at $ 4.7 million US dollars. Weight of this baroque shaped pearl was 470 carats. This pearl was discovered by Wesley Rankin at California’s Salt Point State Park in Petaluma, California.

The Hope pearl: The Hope pearl is largest and most famous pearl in Saltwater. This pearl weighed 450 carat, it is drop-shaped blister pearl. This White pearl measured 2 X 4 inches. This hope pearl has wide color range from greenish-gold on one end and white on other. This pearl is now at the British Museum of Natural History.

Pearl of Allah: This is a largest pearl on record of famous pearls. This was harvested from giant clam, at coast of Palawan Islands, Philippines. Pearl of Allah is 9.4 inches and weighed 14 lbs. This pearl was evaluated at $ 40 million. Muslim diver who found that pearl named that pearl as Pearl of Allah.
